Can we make our data more meaningful by embedding it in our physical environment?
Method has worked on a series of prototypes to explore assumptions, opportunities and implications of bringing data out from behind a screen and making it a part of our surroundings.
The app "Surrounded By Data" was created as a research tool specifically for a SF Design Week event being held at Method, Incs offices in San Francisco on June 8th.
The event will feature a physical prototype for the purposes of data visualization that displays the event attendees step count data.
The app allows for attendees to opt into allowing read only access to their step count data via the HealthKit framework and send it to the physical display device. Their data will not be stored or have any personally identifiable information.
The app also provides information about other prototypes being displayed as well as a map view showing their location at the event.
Beyond the event, the app will serve as a tool to inform further research studies conducted by Method, Inc.
